Jo leads Girl Effect's evidence and insights, social and behaviour change communications (SBCC), gender and safeguarding teams. Jo arrived at Girl Effect after 15 years as a researcher and development professional specialising in sexual and reproductive health, strategy and evaluation, and gender.
After completing her PhD in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Jo worked as a Technical Specialist at Options Consultancy Services, leading the design and evaluation of numerous health, social marketing and social change programmes across multiple countries, in particular across the African continent. She specialised in supporting multi-country teams to deliver technical excellence across the project life cycle, including designing Theories of Change for complex programmes, supporting relationships with funders, and ensuring robust monitoring and evaluation.
While at Options, Jo played a leading role in The Girl Generation, the world’s largest collective of organisations working to end female genital mutilation. She was also responsible for developing rapid participatory research methods for generating insights with hard to reach and vulnerable groups.
